"Imperium Illithidus"

Final Post

The campaign is finished, and it did wrap up quite nicely even though I wasn’t able to post updates. I got very busy with work, so I delegated the GM responsibility to one of the players (who is also an experienced DM). He did an excellent job, and it reached the planned ending at 30th level. The rest of the game went something like this:

1. The PC’s successfully convinced enough factions within the Imperium that defeating the illithids was feasible. A great civil war divided the Imperium. Great battles were fought, and devastation wracked both sides.

2. Behind the front lines, the all-wizard PC group opposed the mindflayers of Penumbra in desperate “Science War” (think WWII, with German and American scientists racing against each other to complete the Manhattan project first).

3. Illithid scientists neared completion of their project “Ascension,” in which their race would transcend to its next nightmarish stage of its evolution. The ascended illithids would have no need for other races, and the ascension process would eradicate all life in the multiverse. [The process involved the entire multiverse and the undead “zerg” race (the xtltlxl), but the details are unimportant].

4. The all-wizard PC group divided a last ditch strategy to hijack various elements of the illithid’s ascension project and “reverse the polarity.” This would eliminate the mindflayer race instead of ascending it. Unfortunately, the plan required a direct assault on Penumbra itself.

5. The final battle was against a circle of Elder Brains and their minions, and the PCs were victorious. Both the PCs and the mindflayer race were eliminated from the multiverse’s timeline entirely and history was rewritten. The rest of the world appeared as though the mindflayers had never arrived from the future 13,000 years ago, unaware of the nightmarish existence it had been spared.

Day 75, Part B

LiberationCania

Summary With Cardinal Belphegor slain, we turned our attention to General Von Silicar and THE UNYIELDING. We eliminated THE UNYIELDING, but Von Silicar and a handful of his High Command escaped our grasp. Also, the dastardly Ta’el mastermind Rydan resurrected due to the death of Mugsy. Though the price we paid was high, Cania is forever free of the blockade, the “Liberate Akbaar” movement is free to spread its message, and the Imperium has been dealt a great blow though the loss of one of its best regiments.

FurtherCania

Summary We inflamed General Von Silicar’s suspicions of his priestly Akbaar allies, and convinced him to launch an attack against the cathedral. Before the attack, we located the “heretical” Free Akbaar movement and partially re-wrote some of the tenets of their faith. The we participated in the attack on the Grand Cathedral of Akbaar and slew Cardinal Belphegor. We were unable to enter the inner sanctum of the cathedral until we stole the bag of holding from General Von Silicar’s belt. Inside this bag of holding was the Ashtherosh clone of Zacharias, who helped us enter the inner sanctum. There, we slew the Ashtherosh clone of the god Akbaar.

Cania : The Eight Hell

LogCania

Summary We had intercepted messages that something BIG is going down in the Church of Akbaar on Cania, so we traveled here in hopes of using whatever it is to our benefit. En route, we were welcomed by an emissary of the City of Brass, the most powerful “mini-empire” within the Imperium. Also en route, we picked up our sailor friend (Al’Ceril) and founded a merchant company to control the Imperium’s weapon shipments. When we arrived at Cania, we found it blockaded by an elite Imperial Regiment (The Unyielding) but we were able to slip past.

Once on the plane, we learned that the Imperium is blockading Cania to prevent a cancer in the Church of Akbaar from spreading. An idealistic priest has nailed a list of grievances to the cathedral doors, and his “heretical” teachings grow more popular each day. The Empire’s Unyielding regiment is tasked with putting a stop to this at all costs. Additionally, the Sultan of Brass’s wife, Lady Ifali, has been trapped here in her summer palace since the blockade began and is not happy with the situation. The three factions have been openly hostile to each other in the streets, and the entire plane resembles a powderkeg ready to ignite.

Day 37 (part 2)

I. Purchased Mercenaries from the Maharaja: The rakshasa Maharaja Khazan of Murion Prime agreed to lend us most of his fleet for the purpose of “eliminating the Xtltlxl bug threat in the sector” in exchange for 150,000 gold pieces. Though he clearly knows we intend to use them to resist the Imperial invasion force, he has taken elaborate measures to conceal his treachery from the Imperium while enriching himself.

Day 36

I. Relocated Prince Donar’s People We transported Prince Donar, Father Genie and the remaining refugees of our home plane to the fertile, temperate Green Shard. Many of the humans of Terroth chose to relocate here also. Prince Donar was crowded King Donar the First, and the entire kingdom was renamed “Donaria.”

Day 33

I. Uncovered Imperial Research Project We discovered more information about the Imperial plan referenced in the journal of the slain rebel spy (Rubin Derishnick). Apparently, the Imperium is conducting a research project that requires a large quantity of an extremely rare mineral called Anarchite. What this research project involves is unknown. However, if the Imperium ever obtains enough Anarchite and successfully transports it to Penumbra, then we suspect it may be “game over” for us all.

Day 32

I. Created New Government “After bringing High Loremaster Sz’ook to justice, we established peace and a new government for the inhabitants of this plane. Prince Donar, who led the survivors of our shattered world, would govern all as Emperor. Warlord Charz of Sal-Terroth would preside over military matters as War-King, and King Terroth of Ka-Terroth would preside over civil matters as Peace-King. The three leaders accepted our proposal, and a formal treaty was signed. We created a third department for research matters, and we appointed a wizard from our home plane to oversee it (Eric Sorrow).

Day 31

I. Crashed Onto Terroth “The tower crashed into the planar fragment and shattered. Half of the tower continued to drift through the astral sea. The other half – the part we were on – crash landed on the plane of Terroth, a burning world of lava and volcanic rock. This plane used to pay fealty to the Imperium, but 200 years ago Imperial Legions plundered and destroyed it. The survivors of the Imperium’s attack split into two factions – The salamanders of Sal-Terroth, and the humans of Ka-Terroth. The salamanders and humans lived in peace with each other for the next 150 years, but fifty years, ago the salamanders abruptly declared war.”
